iPump, a Class-II Medical Device, is a Mobile Infusion Pump, and has been won the national utility models patent. Infusion is necessary on clinical treatment of severe risk patients, and also a commonly used and effective method of drug delivery. However, infusion is a kind of high risk treatment. In the infusion therapy, rate of infusion depends on situation of the specific patient and what kind of drugs to be delivered. Too fast infusion rate may lead to toxic reactions, and more seriously, may lead to edema or even heart failure in patients; too slow infusion rate may result in inadequate doses or extended infusion time, which not only affects the treatment, but also is an unnecessary burden for the patient and nurses as well. The traditional method of infusion is to hang the fluid container at a higher level. Due to the gravity, the liquid naturally flows down through the infusion tube inside the blood vessels. The existing various types cannot control the infusion rate accurately, which led to a number of medical accidents and unfavorable consequences caused by drug side effects. The use of infusion pump can reduce the intensity of nursing, which allows nurses to have more time to communicate with patients, to help improving the doctor-patient relationship. The existing infusion pump is 4-8 kg, which is still very big for its volume. This infusion pump must be fixed in a tall rack of infusion, and the infusion bag is still hanging in the infusion shelves. Just similar to the traditional infusion methods, it still makes patients inconvenience with heavy infusion shelves and long infusion tubes. The spaces for patients are very limited, and any actions may easily lead to infusion needle move, even fall off. Although the infusion pump has a variety of alarm devices, such as obstruction, air bubbles, door open, near end and etc., it has to be activated by patients' pressing ward bells, to notify the nurse infusion failures. That is to say, it cannot be remote monitored. Sun Medical-Scientific Co., Ltd. has solely developed a Mobile Infusion Pump, which is called iPump. It just looks like a cell phone, small size, light-weighted, with embedded click-to-use software, and WIFI technologies and modern electronic technologies inside.
Intelligent Remote-Controlled Portable Intravenous Injection and Transfusion System consists of the following three parts: 1) Portable intelligent infusion pump - iPump, which is a small and light-weighted infusion device, easy to carry and operate, is mostly used in clinical and first aid fields. iPump was Developed By SMS. 2) WIFI LAN: A wireless local area network environment which covers infusion hall, VIP wards, ICU, inpatient department and other buildings within the hospital through WIFI technology. 3) Intelligent IT Remote Central System for iPump, which is pre-installed at nurse stations for remote monitoring of patients with transfusion. With the above infusion system, patients can wear infusion devices to anywhere in the hospital, which extends the scope of their activities. And through the WIFI transfer of information between nurse stations and infusion devices, nurses can just stay in the station and be informed of infusion of patients from every corner in the hosptial.
