Electroporation, using a pair of electrodes, applies high voltage (200-1500 Volt/cm), high frequency, 1-10 pulses to cultured cells in a cuvette. Electroporation is the most efficient method for introducing foreign genes into living cells. However, significant cell damage was observed in electroporation, that can be as high as 70%.

The pulse generator for electroporation, called electroporator, has been on the market for 2 decades. Most of them are designed for applying electric field for the culture cells in the cuvette. Recently, there are some for 96 well culture dish. There is also electroporator for providing pulses to tissues using one pair for electrodes. All of them are in the high voltage range.

Recently, SunTek Medical Scientific & Technology Co., Ltd. has developed, prototyped, and manufactured a micro electric field generator, specifically for in vitro, in ovo and ex vivo intracellular MEFN^TM-drug delivery, called, MicroelectrifieldTM Generator - MEF^TM-803. MEF^TM-803 is designed specifically for using with MEFN-CellTM Cell Culture System. Together, these two systems can be used for in vitro, in ovo and ex vivo intracellular drug delivery system with applicability to siRNAs, genes (plasmid or naked gene), biologics & small molecules, drugs. MEF^TM-803 generates ultra low strength electric field. The pulse amplitude is in the mV range instead of 100 volts range in electroporation. The mechanism of MEFN-CellTM is distinct from electroporation. It uses a dense electrode array to apply a low strength electric field network on cells, that allows low voltage electro-permeabilization, thus allowing a long term MEFN^TM treatment as compared to the electroporation. MEF^TM-803 is ready to sell for laboratory use. The patent of the novel circuits design for the fine adjustment is in pending.

The on screen program feature for the unique Burst pulse application in long time treatment is specifically designed for LSEN-Cell application. The additional voltage and current protection circuits is the new invention for this line of products that add extra safety for eliminate the cell damage in the long time treatment. There are accessories for the optional 10 or 20 cell chambers for treated together in a culture plate shelf. There are also some outlets for the large quantity cell LSEN-treatment chambers and apparatuses.
